Swiss entrepreneur duo continue to invest in Portugal

The Swiss business couple Chitra and Roman Stern have lived in Portugal for 17 years where they founded the Martinhal Family Hotels & Resorts group. They opened the first 5-star luxury family resort, Martinhal Sagres Beach Family Resort in 2010, in the western Algarve and the success of the brand lead to quick expansion.

The hotel group specializes in family-friendly hotels, hotels/resorts has now 4 Martinhal hotels/resorts – two in the Algarve, one in Lisbon city-centre and other in Cascais.

They are now expanding and diversifying their business with an investment in over 80,000 sqm of construction in a mixed use development in the Expo area. The Sterns’ latest projects comprise an office/commercial building, 5-star hotel residences and an international school complex in the sophisticated and trendy Parque das Nações.

They intend to open the International School with an international brand in 2019. In addition to the amazing beaches, welcoming kind people, great weather and food, Chitra and Roman saw Portugal’s potential in terms of business opportunities back in 2001 and are delighted to have chosen Portugal as place to live, start a business and a family!
