Portuguese military aviation with Swiss watch on the wrist
It’s been 100 years since a law-decree created the Aeronautic Military School, landmark regarded as the birth of military aviation in Portugal. In this context, the Portuguese Air Force has teamed up with Breitling to launch a very special edition of the watch Navitimer 01.
In 1952 Breitling launched the Navitimer, a wrist chronograph, with circular slide rule, allowing perform all operations relating to air navigation. Precisely this iconic Navitimer 01 was the model chosen as the official watch of the centenary.
New IWC Portuguese
2015 marks the 75th anniversary of the “Portuguese Collection” of IWC. The Swiss watch company decided to celebrate this occasion it with a watch with an annual calendar and a new caliber of manufacturing.
The “Portuguese Collection” was born in 1940 and bears the name of Portugal because it emerged from an order of two Portuguese merchants who wanted watches with the same precision of the Navy chronographs – something at the time only possible in bulkier pocket watches. Today it is one of the most famous Collection in the history of watchmaking.
The new watch was officially presented at the “International Exhibition of Haute Horlogerie” of Geneva, on January 19, 2015.
